Tesla battery replacement costs are a significant financial burden, especially for older models. The reasonable life expectancy of a Tesla battery depends on factors like charging habits, temperature exposure, and frequent blasting from 0-60 mph. Elon Musk stated that current battery modules should last 300k to 500k miles, which is far beyond what the average owner of a conventional, gas-powered car would travel before an engine overhaul is reasonably expected. Tesla’s battery warranty only runs up to 150,000 miles for the Model S and Model X or 120,000 miles for the smaller Model Y/Model 3. Based on available evidence, a Tesla’s battery can be expected to last 100,000 miles comfortably, with degradation of around 5% over the first 50,000 miles.
