Volkswagen ID.3 vs MG4: 2023 twin test review

The Volkswagen ID.3 is a five-door hatchback with a 77kWh battery, capable of traveling up to 347 miles between charges. It has a rear-mounted electric motor. The ID.3 has a five-star rating overall and a safe, stable character. The Pro S model offers a smaller 58kWh battery, a 265-mile official range, and slower 120kW charging, but costs £5,755.
The MG4 has a maximum five-star rating in Euro NCAP. With a rear motor driving the back wheels the MG has 200bhp and 250Nm of torque. The MG4 has a five-star rating, but its lane-keep tech is intrusive. The entry-level SE can cover 218 miles on a full charge, while the Long Range cars manage 270-281 miles and the Extended Range offers 323 miles. The SE Long Range has most of the kit you’ll need at a bargain price. The MG4 wins our twin test, but other options include the Hyundai Kona Electric, Renault Megane E-Tech, Nissan Leaf, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Peugeot e-308.
