Tesla’s solution to Cybertruck range anxiety is a strap-on battery pack

Tesla has introduced a “Range Extender” for its Cybertruck electric ute, which is a toolbox-sized battery pack installed behind the cabin in the tub. The Range Extender is not a combustion engine that can be used as a generator, but rather a toolbox-sized battery pack that can increase the range of certain Tesla models. The flagship Cybertruck Cyberbeast variant has an estimated range of 515km, while the mid-spec Cybertruck All-Wheel Drive has an estimated range of 547km. With the Range Extender, the range increases by at least 190km and 208km. The entry-level Cybertruck Rear-Wheel Drive is not yet available with the Range Extender. The Cybertruck is the first Tesla to adopt a 48V/800V electrical architecture, with a maximum DC fast-charging rate of 250kW, which can add up to 206km of range in 15 minutes of charging.
