Recent research suggests that fast charging of electric vehicles (EVs) is not harmful to batteries, as it does not cause rapid degradation of the battery. The study, conducted on 12,500 Tesla vehicles, found no statistically significant difference in battery degradation between Model 3 and Model Y vehicles that charged at least 90% of the time using Superchargers and Model 3 vehicles that charged no more than 10% of the time using Superchargers. Model 3 vehicles and Model Y vehicles that rarely Supercharged had lost more battery capacity or range over the same period of time. The research suggests that the robust thermal, voltage, and battery management systems used by EV manufacturers do protect their batteries from damage with routine fast charger use.
