Tesla Model Y Fails To Meet Range Claims Year Round: Consumer Reports

The Tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E extended range, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Volkswagen ID.4 Pro S were tested by Consumer Reports in three temperature settings to determine the impact of weather on battery-powered vehicles. The Model Y’s real-world range was down to 186 miles in cold weather, while the Mustang Mach-E and Hyundai Ioniq 5 achieved a real-world cold weather range of 188 miles and 256 miles respectively. The Volkswagen ID.4’s EPA-rated range of 240 miles was impossible to achieve in freezing temperatures. The Model Y’s range in warm weather was 274 miles, slightly lower than the EPA estimate of 326 miles.
