Rivian, an electric vehicle startup, has announced plans to market its electric commercial vans to customers beyond Amazon. The company, which received a contract to produce 100,000 electric delivery vans from Amazon in 2019, has already delivered about 10,000 EDVs. Rivian has now announced that it will make its electric van available to other buyers, naming it the Rivian Commercial Van. The vehicle will be built on the same platform as the Amazon Electric Delivery Van, with Rivian stating that companies worldwide have expressed strong interest. The Rivian Commercial Van is equipped with advanced safety features, including automatic emergency braking, driver assistance, airbags, and a 360-degree camera system. Rivian’s in-house software stack controls every interaction, allowing easy access to critical fleet information. The company will initially prioritize larger fleet requests and begin small-scale deployments in 2024 before scaling deliveries in 2025.
