BMW has recalled about 11,200 all-electric iX SUVs from model years 2022-2024 because their cruise control systems can activate unexpectedly.
BMW tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the button which reactivates the cruise control is too easy to inadvertently hit “when maneuvering the vehicle at low speeds and turning the steering wheel.”
That could cause an unexpected speed surge, though the driver can immediately end it by hitting the brake pedal.
Dealers will fix the problem not by relocating the button but with a software update.
Manufacturers recall millions of cars every year to fix safety defects. While automakers try to reach every owner to ask them to bring the vehicle in for repair, they rarely reach them all. Millions of vehicles on American roads need free recall repairs. To find out if your car is one of them, check the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
