Polestar is set to launch the all-electric Polestar 4 in the UK in 2024, following the release of the Polestar 3 in April 2023. The 4 is a midsize coupe-SUV, priced around £55,000 and follows the 3, which is a premium SUV rival for the BMW iX and Audi Q8 e-tron. The Polestar 4 defies comparisons with other family car models by having a complete lack of a rear windscreen, instead adopting rear-facing cameras that project a video feed of what’s behind you into the rear-view mirror. This has solved the problem of cars with curved coupe-like rooflines offering poor rear visibility.

The Polestar 4’s ride quality impressed, with a firm but supple ride on smooth roads around LA. Improved ride quality has been a focus in the development of the Polestar 4, but it has had to be balanced with the need to retain the sporty driving experience that the brand sees as central to its identity.

Polestar has taken a bold design approach with the Polestar 4, yet while the camera-based rear view might be suboptimal in many people’s eyes, it has enabled the car to combine a curving coupe roofline and genuinely spacious rear passenger accommodation.
