Move over Quad-Motor, the Dual-Motor Rivian R1 EVs have the makings to be something special

Rivian has introduced the Dual-Motor R1 EVs, featuring its new Enduro drive unit. The Enduro is a 3-in-1 fully-integrated system of rotor, stator, and inverter all-in-one housing, with a dynamic disconnect feature that can automatically switch to Single-Motor mode to maximize range. Rivian has been implementing the Dual-Motor configuration since May, with the aim of offering lower costs and a promise to “do everything for most customers.”
The Dual-Motor R1 EVs have been tested on the automaker’s First Mile Adventure Test Track, with the R1T outperforming the Quad-Motor R1T in all terrain conditions. The Quad-Motor R1 EVs are expected to appeal to those into off-roading and those who want to carve their own path in the outdoors. Rivian’s Dual-Motor options are expected to be popular among consumers, as they offer better performance and range depending on the battery pack chosen.
