Kia has issued a recall for nearly 1,400 Niro EV and EV6 models due to a critical drive shaft defect. The recall affects approximately 133 vehicles in Canada and 1,243 in the US, produced between January 26, 2023, and July 13, 2023. The issue arose from a manufacturing error by Hyundai WIA, causing the left-hand drive shaft of the Niro EV vehicles and the rear inner drive shaft of the EV6 vehicles to be improperly heat-treated during production. This could result in a sudden loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.
