Ford Australia has confirmed that the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E electric SUV will be joining local Ford showrooms from later in 2023 with specific timing yet to be confirmed. To be launched as the first all-electric vehicle in Australia from the company, the Mustang Mach-E has been on sale for a few years globally but will finally go on sale locally. The Mach-E will be offered in three models – Select, Premium and the top-spec GT – with up to 550km of driving range (on the WLTP cycle in overseas markets).

There’s something special about the Mach-E that you can only really understand once you get behind the wheel.”
Using Ford’s all-electric ‘GE1’ platform, the Ford Mustang Mach-E is a mid-size SUV that will compete with cars like the Kia EV6, Tesla Model Y and Hyundai Ioniq 5. Measuring 4,739mm long, 1,881mm wide, 1,621mm tall and with a 2,984mm long wheelbase, the Mach-E is sized quite similarly to the Model Y – the Tesla is only 11mm longer, for example.
Under the body of the Ford Mustang Mach-E will be a choice of two battery sizes: the entry-level Select features a 71kWh unit for up to 440km of range (WLTP for overseas cars – Australian specifications are yet to be confirmed), while the mid-spec Premium and top-spec GT feature a larger 91kWh unit. The Premium will feature up to 550km of range (WLTP) and the high-performance GT up to 490km. Overseas, DC fast charging up to 150kW is available.
The Select uses a 198kW/430Nm electric motor on the rear wheels while the Premium and GT use a dual-motor all-wheel drive layout. The Premium’s outputs are rated at 216kW/430Nm, while the GT boosts that to a massive 358kW/860Nm for a 0-100km/h sprint time of just 3.7 seconds – the GT also has larger brakes, adaptive suspension and other performance features to match the extra boost.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E range will be equipped with a huge 15.5-inch touchscreen that features Ford’s latest ‘SYNC4’ infotainment system, while a 10.2-inch digital driver’s display and a wireless phone charger will also be standard equipment, as will a panoramic glass roof. A 10-speaker B&O sound system will be available too.
Full pricing and specifications are yet to be announced, but we predict a starting price of around $70,000 plus on-road costs for the entry-level Select and rising to around $110,000 for the top-spec GT. Available features in New Zealand for the Mustang Mach-E include Matrix adaptive high beam functionality, wheels up to 20-inches in size, ‘Sensico’ synthetic leather upholstery and a full suite of active safety equipment.
