The Volkswagen ID 4 has undergone a series of changes to address criticisms of its performance, range, interior quality, and control layout. The 2024 model-year has received an updated drivetrain, power-electrics software, and an upgraded interior. The updated drivetrain features a rear-axle-mounted motor, boosting the rear-wheel-drive ID 4 Pro Performance to 282bhp and 402lb ft.

The new motor also offers stronger step-off and rolling acceleration, and improved 0-62mph times across the range. The ID 4 also features a revised inverter with updated software for efficient conversion of DC electricity stored in the battery to AC electricity used by the motor. The new 12.9in infotainment touchscreen offers simpler menus and a more advanced conversational voice control system.
