Electric Mini Cooper reborn with radical interior and 250-mile range

The Mini Cooper E and Cooper SE are electric vehicles that will be available in two forms: the Cooper E, which has a 181bhp front-mounted motor and a 40.7kWh battery, and the Cooper SE, which has 215bhp and a 54.2kWh battery. The Cooper E will cost from £30,000 and the Cooper SE from £34,500, with UK deliveries starting early next year. The Cooper E is based on a dedicated EV platform developed as part of the Spotlight Automotive joint venture with China’s Great Wall Motors.
The Cooper E has a theoretical range of about 185 miles, while the Cooper SE has a range of about 240 miles. The Cooper E is about the same size as the Electric, with a slightly wider and longer wheelbase. The steering is transformed, and the chassis backs up the fast steering with grip and response. The Cooper SE is primarily for longer range, but the Mini Electric is very efficient in the real world. Both versions are pleasantly nippy in that EV way, with little evidence to suggest any issues.
