Chinese electric-car start-up launches new Tesla Model Y rival

Chinese electric-car start-up Xpeng has launched the G6 electric SUV in its home market, priced from RMB209,900 ($AU45,000), undercutting the Tesla Model Y, which starts at RMB263,900 ($AU56,500). The G6 is the fifth model from Xpeng, built on Xpeng’s new ‘SEPA 2.0’ electric car platform. It features a sleek coupe-inspired body, full-width front and rear lights, and a 66kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) or 87.5kWh lithium-ion battery. The G6 is available in single-motor, rear-wheel-drive or dual-motor, all-wheel-drive models.
