The BMW i4 eDrive35 is a new entry-point to the i4 range, offering the same level of tech as the rest of the line-up but at a lower price. Starting from £49,995 in Sport trim, the eDrive35 undercuts its longer-range sibling by almost £8k and only sacrifices 60-odd miles on a full charge. It won’t top up as quickly (180kW plays the eDrive40’s 205kW peak) but the smaller battery means you won’t be sitting at the services for too much longer; a 10-80 per cent charge is possible in 32 minutes.
The eDrive35 is down on power but still feels quick off the line and during mid-range overtakes. It’s more agile than the larger i5, changing direction with purpose and remaining almost completely flat in the process. The i4 remains a lovely executive car with a crisp curved panel for the infotainment system and instrument cluster. The M Sport trim is the base car we’d recommend, offering heated seats, cruise control, sat-nav, and 17-inch alloy wheels as standard.
