BMW Australia has announced three new electric vehicles, the iX1, iX3, and i4 variants, all priced below $89,332, the Luxury Car Tax threshold for “fuel-efficient” vehicles and the cut-off for a Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) exemption. The i4 eDrive 35 mid-size sedan, iX3 M Sport mid-size SUV, and iX1 eDrive 20 small SUV are all expected to be delivered in local showrooms later this year or early next year. The new vehicles range from $78,900 to $89,100 plus on-road costs, and are $4000 to $17,000 cheaper than the next models up. The iX1 eDrive 20 is due in the fourth quarter of 2023, while the iX1 eDrive 20 is planned to follow in the first quarter of 2024. BMW Australia claims to have the broadest electric-car line-up in Australia with 12 model variants, including the iX large electric SUV.
