The Renault Megane E-Tech hatchback offers all-electric drive, interior quality, and an impressive infotainment system. It is practical with a generous boot and decent interior space, while its stylish appearance helps it compete with close rivals. While the overall efficiency could be better, the rear space is a little tight compared to zero-emissions family SUVs in the same price range.

The Nissan E-Tech is a bold decision, using the same bespoke EV platform as the Nissan Ariya SUV, which was our 2022 Car of the Year. Rivals like the Kia e-Niro, Hyundai Kona Electric, Smart #1, BYD Atto 3, Nissan Leaf, and Citroen e-C4 and e-C4 X offer options, but the MG4 EV is a real challenger. The standard kit includes a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, nine-inch touchscreen, OpenR Link infotainment system, LED headlights, rear-view camera, cruise control, traffic sign recognition, heated front seats and steering wheel, and top-spec Iconic models with a heat pump. Prices start from around £37,000, on par with the Kia Niro EV and VW ID.3.
