After a long wait, the Ford Mustang Mach-E is due in Australian showrooms later this year – in three model grades – with big performance numbers and up to 600km of claimed driving range.
The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E is due in Australian showrooms in late 2023, Ford Australia has confirmed today – as the first electric passenger vehicle to be sold here by the US auto giant.
Three years after it went on sale in the US, Ford has confirmed plans to launch the Mustang Mach-E in Australia with three variants: the rear-wheel-drive Select, the rear-wheel-drive Premium, and the range-topping all-wheel-drive GT.
Pre-orders are expected to open in the coming months ahead of first showroom arrivals scheduled between October and December 2023.
Australian pricing will be announced closer to the local launch, but as a guide, in New Zealand the Mach-E range – which has some differences compared to Australian variants – is priced from about $AU75,000 to $AU117,000 before on-road costs.
Kicking off the model range is the Mustang Mach-E Select, fitted with a 71kWh battery powering a single 198kW/430Nm electric motor at the rear axle, with a claimed driving range of up to 470 kilometres (WLTP test cycle).

Buyers wanting the longest driving range available can opt for the Mustang Mach-E Premium, which uses a larger 91kWh battery and 216kW/430Nm electric motor, with a claimed range of up to 600km (WLTP).
At the top end of the line-up is the high-performance Mustang Mach-E GT, also with the 91kWh battery, but fitted with dual electric motors sending a combined 358kW and 860Nm to all four wheels.
Though driving range is lower at 490km (WLTP), the Mach-E GT will be the quickest car in Ford Australia showrooms, covering the 0-100km/h sprint time in a claimed 3.7 seconds.
It is worth noting this acceleration time includes ‘one foot rollout’ – the one foot (30cm) gap on a drag strip between where the car starts and where it begins to be timed, in which space a car can reach speeds of about 5km/h. Independent testing shows the vehicle is in the low to mid 4.0-second bracket, depending on conditions.

Only the GT will be fitted as standard with Ford’s ‘MagneRide’ magnetically-controlled shock absorbers. Testing by Drive of the GT’s standard suspension offered overseas found it stiff, even on relatively smooth roads.
In December 2022, Australasian crash test authority ANCAP awarded the Mach-E Select and Premium with a five-star safety rating for the New Zealand market – though the Mach-E GT remains unrated.
The ANCAP report did not recommend fitting a child restraint in the centre of the second row of seats due to there being no top tether anchorage, however this may change for Australia, as a top-tether point is legally required to allow an adult to sit in the middle rear seat. Otherwise the vehicle may need to be classified as a four-seater.

All Mach-E models planned for Australia are equipped with a 15.5-inch portrait infotainment screen running Ford’s Sync 4 operating system, a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium sound system, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver, wireless smartphone charging, and a panoramic sunroof.
The Mustang Mach-E will be the first electric passenger vehicle from Ford in Australia – with the E-Transit commercial electric van due to join the brand’s local line-up next month.
