2024 Toyota BZ4X FWD review

Toyota has finally joined the electric vehicle party with the BZ4X mid-size crossover, marking 14 years since Mitsubishi introduced Australians to pure electric vehicles with the iMiev tiny hatchback. The Toyota BZ4X FWD, priced at $66,000 plus on-roads, is the cheaper of the two BZ4X variants that went on sale in Australia in March 2024. The BZ4X is longer and wider than a Toyota RAV4, with a slightly lower roof height, and has an impressive 212mm (AWD variant) of ground clearance. It is 90mm longer than the Toyota RAV4 and sits on a 160mm longer wheelbase. It is ideally sized for duties as an urban family EV. However, the battery is small and the 436km range is on the low side. The BZ4X lacks a glovebox, no foot room under front seats, and cloth trim for nearly $70K. It also misses important safety systems that are only offered on the top model.
