2024 Polestar 2 RWD: why the cheaper entry level beats the dual motor AWD

Polestar’s 2024 Polestar 2 RWD offers a more affordable entry level for electric fastback sedans, with the rear-drive version being cheaper, lighter, more efficient, and more playful than the AWD version. The Polestar 2 RWD in Long Range guise has a 655km WLTP range, which is over 10% higher than the equivalent Polestar 2 AWD. The cheapest 2024 Polestar 2 available is a Standard Range Single Motor with 200kW/490Nm, 69kWh battery, and 546km range, costing $67,400 plus on-roads. Upgrading to the Long Range ($71,400 RRP version) adds 20kW and drops the 0-100km/h time from 6.4-seconds to 6.2-seconds. The Long Range also has a larger battery that can charge up to 205kW, reducing DC charging time by 10-80%.
