The 2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV was introduced today as an ultra-premium, fully electric sport utility vehicle and top-of-the-line EQS SUV model.

It features a dual electric motor powertrain delivering 649 horsepower and 701 pound-feet of torque

Range on the WLTP cycle will reach 600 kilometres

It’s the first Mercedes-EQ model to feature sustainably process leather

The new 2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV introduced today is the first-ever electric vehicle from Maybach, and as such it introduces a range of advanced features designed to elevate performance, refinement, and comfort. Moreover, the first Maybach EV features exclusive sustainability characteristics, notably in the way its leather is processed. Like previous Maybach iterations of Mercedes-Benz models like the GLS and S-Class, the new Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV will take everything the EQS 450 SUV and EQS 580 SUV introduced last year do well, and make it even better.

A single version boasting nearly 650 horsepower

The 2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV will be offered in a single version, the EQS 680 SUV. The EQS 680 SUV is powered by a similar powertrain to what we find in other EQS SUV models, specifically two permanently excited synchronous motors (PSM) that deliver power to all four wheels. Total combined output reaches 649 horsepower while torque is rated at 701 pound-feet. Mercedes-Maybach says this will push the EQS 680 SUV to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds.

Up to 600 kilometres of range on the WLTP cycle

The 2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV will use a 400-volt architecture and is equipped with a 9.6-kW onboard charger for home charging. For long-distance travel, the EQS SUV can charge up to 200 kW on a DC fast charger. According to Mercedes-Maybach, the EQS 680 SUV can replenish 80% of its range in just 31 minutes, boasting an impressive 220 kilometers of range (based on WLTP testing) in 15 minutes. Official range numbers aren’t confirmed, but the EQS 680 SUV is estimated to offer 600 kilometers on the WLTP cycle That should translate to over 500 kilometers of range when measured on the more rigorous EPA cycle.

Exterior Maybach design cues

The new electrified SUV will feature many of the traditional Maybach design cues, namely available dual-tone paint. The front-end of the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV is characterized by the brand’s signature black panel, adorned with vertical, chrome-plated trim strips arranged in a three-dimensional depth look. Notably, the large black panel is now smoothly closed for the first time. Moreover, the vehicle’s radar sensors element is fully integrated and no longer noticeable. The air intake of the bumper is equipped with chrome-plated, filigree slats, tying in the first electric Maybach with previous gas-powered models. Base 21-inch wheels are standard while 22-inch options are available.

Of course, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV also offers the brand’s characteristic two-tone paintwork with a delicate pinstripe that has been applied by hand. This distinct feature is available in five elegant color combinations, including high-tech silver/obsidian black, high-tech silver/nautical blue, obsidian black/selenite grey, obsidian black/kalahari gold, and velvet brown/onyx black.

Premium luxury inside

Like other Maybach models, the 2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV doesn’t revolutionize the interior the EQS SUV models we have seen so far, but it improves and enhances the features and the available trims and design elements.

We can see that Mercedes-Maybach designers focused first on the rear passenger compartment. There we find a unique lounge-like atmosphere with the best materials and craftsmanship with exclusive, Maybach-oriented details.

The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV’s Executive Seats come standard and are equipped with an array of features for a truly luxurious experience, including ventilation, massage function, neck and shoulder heating, as well as a calf massage. There is also the Chauffeur Package option which prompts the front passenger seat to move forward into chauffeur position when the right rear passenger reclines their seat. Those wanting to take comfort to another level can opt for additional features such as First-Class Rear and MBUX rear tablet, along with four fast-charging USB-C ports and two HDMI interfaces so passengers can use their own digital devices on their journey in style. As an optional extra, buyers can order folding tables, a cooling compartment and even silver-plated champagne goblets. The interior atmosphere is completed by an Active Ambient Lighting comprised of 253 LEDs offering 64 different colour schemes, including Maybach-specific tones of Rose Gold White and Amethyst Glow.

The rear passengers experience a full range of infotainment and comfort opportunities with two 11.6-inch displays conveniently built into the backrests of the front seats. Standard equipment is also included, such as MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment that makes sharing content across various displays easy and fast. It’s also possible to select and modify navigation destinations from the rear seats. This is further enhanced by the standard MBUX rear tablet which can be used both in and outside the vehicle, as well as the MBUX Interior Assist system that offers up convenience. Cameras are able to recognize operating requests from body and hand movements, executing functions like switching on reading lights.

Other exclusive features for passengers include the animated display of the instrument cluster in “MAYBACH” mode, designed with silk scarf pointers that move according to speed and driving style. Details like rose gold surrounds for round instruments add an exclusive Maybach touch while an alternative display form provides a sporty “Pure EV” style with a 3D performance bar that conveys driving status.

It would be too long to go over in detail everything that is offered in the new 2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV. What is certain is that this new EQS SUV version will aim for the top of the mountain when it comes to luxury in an electric vehicle, and at the moment it won’t have any direct competitors when it arrives on the market at the end of 2023.
