The Mercedes-Benz EQS450 4Matic is the sixth model in the EQ electric vehicle family, offering almost 500km of range. It is powered by two permanently excited synchronous electric motors, one at each axle, and a 108kWh battery capable of delivering 483km of driving range. The twin electric motors make 265kW and 800Nm, capable of propelling the near-three-tonne SUV from 0–100km/h in 6.0 seconds. Top speed is limited to 210km/h.

The EQS450 has not been tested by Australia’s safety body ANCAP or its native Europe. However, Euro NCAP awarded it a five-star rating in 2021. The EQS450 4Matic can achieve between 20.2 and 24.3kWh per 100 kilometers of driving depending on energy-recuperation opportunities and driving conditions. The vehicle weighs 2918kg and has an impressive energy consumption figure of 20kWh/100km.

The EQS450 4Matic offers a quiet driving experience with its standard Acoustic Comfort pack, which adds a remarkable level of sound-deadening via laminated glass and reinforced fleece-lined panel inserts. The ride isn’t the last word in suppleness, but the continuously adaptive air suspension set-up plays a part in maintaining stability. The Dynamic Select drive modes provide firmness and agility, while rear-wheel steering turns the rear wheels at up to 4.5 degrees for better handling.

The EQS450 4Matic is a statement that says “I’m at the forefront of the EV revolution” while not compromising on luxury. With its imposing presence and interior opulence, the seven-seater ticks many boxes, making it an impressive statement from the German brand.
