The 2023 Genesis GV60 electric car from Hyundai’s luxury brand has received an update – and a $4000 price rise – eight months after arriving in Australian showrooms.
The GV60 – the twin under the skin to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 – has gained two additional airbags, new interior technology, facial-recognition and fingerprint-reading technology, and a connected-car smartphone app.
It is available to order from Genesis now, priced from $107,700 to $114,700 plus on-road costs – $4000 more than the pre-update Model Year 2022 version, which launched the GV60 in Australia in September 2022.

New for the 2023 model is a facial recognition camera in the driver’s door pillar, which allows the car to be unlocked without a key, and can adjust seat, steering wheel and mirror position to the detected driver’s preferences.
When the driver is inside, the vehicle can be started with a fingerprint sensor, even when the key is not inside the car.
The updated GV60 debuts Genesis Connected Services, which adds a range of internet-connected features to the infotainment system – plus support for a companion app on the driver’s smartphone.
Included for free for the first five years, the system offers features such as an SOS emergency call function, remote locking and unlocking, battery status, a valet mode, electric-car charging station search, and remote viewing of the car’s 360-degree camera.
The introduction of connected services is linked with the addition of over-the-air downloadable updates for the infotainment system, which can be conducted without visiting the dealership.
The Performance AWD variant gains Virtual Gear Shift, which combines electric-motor hardware with trick software to simulate the shift feel of a petrol or diesel vehicle’s automatic transmission, controlled through the paddle shifters.
The system can be turned on or off – and makes the car slightly slower – but is promised to provide an “additional layer of involvement during enthusiastic driving”, according to Genesis.
Other upgrades across the range include rear-side airbags – which protect rear passengers’ torsos in side-impact crashes, in addition to the curtain airbags for their heads – plus an air purification mode, and control of the colour of the front footwell lighting.
There are new rear brake calipers covers with Genesis branding – finished in silver on the standard AWD model, or black on the Performance AWD.
The colour palette has been revised; Capri Blue Mica replaces Adriatic Blue Mica, Makalu Grey Metallic replaces Himalayan Grey Metallic and Melbourne Grey Matte, and Sao Paulo Lime green is no longer available.
Powering the base GV60 AWD are two electric motors and a 77.4kWh battery good for 234kW and 605Nm, developing 234kW and 605Nm, and 470km of claimed European WLTP driving range.
The GV60 Performance AWD steps up to 180kW dual electric motors developing 320kW and 605Nm in normal driving, or 360kW and 700Nm in 10-second periods of ‘Boost Mode’.
Genesis claims 0-100km/h times of 4.6 seconds in normal mode, or 4.0 seconds in Boost mode, with 466km of claimed WLTP driving range.
The 2023 Genesis GV60 is on sale now.
