The 2023 Fiat 500e La Prima is an electric version of the iconic hatchback, priced at $52,500 before on-road costs. It replaces the old petrol engine with a tiny electric motor that powers the front wheels, producing 87kW and 220Nm outputs. The 42kWh battery array powers the car, which can travel 311km on a charge and takes just over 30 minutes to charge from zero to 80 per cent at a maximum rate of 85kW. The car is priced similarly to larger electric-car rivals such as the BYD Atto 3 and Hyundai Kona Electric.

The driving experience of the electric Fiat 500e is enjoyable, but it may only appeal to select buyers due to its price tag. The car’s hard-edged suspension quality and road noise transmission make it a niche product, and its success will depend on the preferences of potential buyers.
